Transcription of General Records 1887-1909 By Robert D. and Cheryl J. Allen Published by Robert D. and Cheryl J. Allen
This is a transcription of the earliest existing records of Washington Township, Macomb County, Michigan. From the minutes of the Washington Township Board meeting held on April 29, 1887, "...it was resolved to enter on the records of the Township a Notice of the loss of all the records of the Township by Fire on the night of April the Fourteenth 1887 in order that it should not be lost in the history of the Township. The Clerks Office was held in the Hardware Store of James R. Morland and every effort was made to save the contents but owing to the nature of the combustible matter in the store it was a total loss as well as the Property of the Township of Washington and State of Michigan." This book includes the Proceedings of Town Meetings, Proceedings of Town Board, Register of Town Officers and Term of Office, and much more. There are many familiar names from the history of the township such as Thorington, Sikes, Bowerman, Lockwood, and Keeler. These General Records give great insight into what life was like in Washington Township during this time period.
